Cinnamon Maple Baked Apples
Tart, crisp fall apples, like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith, are calling out to be baked with cinnamon, maple, and warm spices. It has barely cooled off around here, but the slightest twinge of a fall breeze and a stroll through the grocery or the farmers market quickly brings the desire for conjuring.
The sweet, tart, and spicy aroma of these apples baking, with their fall flavors melding, make it officially feel like the season has arrived in full. As the nights become longer warm yourself with something healthy to cap off your evening as you light a candle or sit by the fire.
Our cinnamon maple apples are baked in slices, but you could prepare them like a classic baked apple. These warm, aromatic slices are delicious on their own, or serve them with a splash of dairy or non-diary cream, or as a topping over any vanilla ice cream. They're also a perfect pairing to top your morning oats.

Ingredients
1.5 tart apples per person
Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or any tart apple
maple syrup
light brown sugar
cinnamon
cardamom
black pepper
salt
melted dairy or non-dairy butter
Recipe
Wash one and half tart apples per person. Cut apples in quarter inch slices. Toss with a drizzle of maple syrup. Sprinkle with light brown sugar. All sweeteners and spices to taste. Add a healthy amount of ground cinnamon. Add a whisper of cardamom and a light bit of sea salt. Finish with a few cracks of black pepper. Add a small amount of melted butter, enough to add additional moisture to the mix. Toss until all slices are equally covered. Place apples in a ceramic baking dish or individual ceramic dishes and bake at 350 degrees until apples are cooked, golden, and some of the edges are crispy. Serve warm by themselves, with cream or ice cream, or over morning oats. Enjoy. Stay healthy.
